Cellcom reports 50,000 I-mode subscribers in 3 months

Cellcom’s I-mode content now includes 96 Israeli websites and access to 80,000 foreign websites.

Cellcom Israel Ltd. reports that it has 50,000 I-mode subscribers three months after launch. Cellcom’s CEO said this would not be the sole 3G content solution. The two-for-the-price-of-one handsets sales campaign does not emphasize I-mode capable handsets either.

Cellcom said most new I-mode subscribers since the launch of the service use it extensively, although it should be borne in mind that most services are given free during the first months of use.

Since launching I-mode in September, Cellcom has been adding content, which now includes 96 Israeli websites and access to 80,000 foreign websites.

Cellcom head of customer service David Laron said, “Cellcom is continuing to invest in I-mode. Its penetration is based on a combination of the range of content, the variety of handsets, and a user-friendly interface. I-mode capable handsets were heavily represented in gift telephone campaigns.”
