Cox Communications chooses Terayon cable modems

Deployments of the TJ 715 will begin shortly in Cox's Phoenix, Arizona network, the company's largest.

Terayon Communication Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TERN) today announced that Cox Communications (NYSE: COX), the fifth largest cable television operator in the U.S., has selected Terayon as a preferred vendor and approved Terayon's TJ 715 cable modem for use on its networks.

Deployments of the TJ 715 will begin shortly in Cox's Phoenix, Arizona network, the company's largest. The TJ 715 is certified as meeting the DOCSIS 1.1 (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) specification for cable modems and is also based on DOCSIS 2.0, the latest version of the specification.

"Phoenix is a very competitive market for residential broadband services, and we must continue to stay one step ahead of the competition to maintain our leadership position. The advanced features and capabilities of Terayon's TJ 715 cable modem give us a significant advantage over our competition," said Ike Wells, vice president of field operations for Cox's Phoenix system.

"With the Terayon TJ 715, we can immediately begin deploying DOCSIS 1.1 certified modems with the performance and features to help us meet the growing demand for our broadband cable modem service," said Jay Rolls, vice president of data deployments for Cox. "We selected the TJ 715 after conducting extensive tests to verify that it meets the stringent requirements we have for the cable modems we deploy on our systems."

"Cox's selection of our TJ 715 cable modems is a significant milestone for Terayon as the company expands its presence in the U.S. and DOCSIS markets," said Mark Stalica, vice president of North American sales for Terayon. "This win is particularly significant for Terayon as Cox is recognized as an industry leader in delivering residential broadband voice and data services, in addition to its success providing broadband telecommunication services to large and small companies nationwide."

"Terayon is especially pleased to be selected by Cox's Phoenix system for its upcoming modem deployments," said Gary Brust, Terayon's group director for U.S. East Coast sales. "Phoenix is recognized as one of the United States' most prestigious cable systems."

Terayon said that as the only cable modem to be DOCSIS 1.1 certified and DOCSIS 2.0 based, the TJ 715 can deliver up to three times the upstream throughput of DOCSIS 1.1 modems. The TJ 715 is a member of the company's new line of DOCSIS 1.1 certified and DOCSIS 2.0-base cable modems, based on chips developed by Terayon's Imedia Semiconductor subsidiary.
