Walla! still Israel's most popular Internet site

A TNS/Teleseker Internet Monitor survey for May 2002 shows the Hotmail and Google sites have improved their position, while Yahoo! has slipped.

Internet site Walla! is still the most popular Internet site among Israeli surfers, according to a TNS/Teleseker Internet Monitor (TIM) survey for May 2002. Walla! had a 47.7% rating, compared with 45.2% in November 2001. The survey examined weekly exposure rates for selected Internet sites. The survey, conducted every six months, includes both surfing from home and from outside the home.

The Hotmail site (Hebrew and English) also posted a significant gain, rising from 26.4% in November 2001 to 36.4% in May 2002. Google also improved from 17.5% in November 2001 to 23.2% in May 2002. Also up was sports portal One, going from 8.6% in November 2001 to 11.4% in May 2002. Web sites Yahoo!, Start, Alta Vista, and Israel Online (IOL) lost ground.

The total weekly exposure rate out of the overall number of surfers in the private sector, excluding duplication, for sites linked to the Ha'aretz group is 54.9%. This includes Walla!, IOL, "Ha'aretz", TheMarker, and A-Online. The weekly exposure rate, excluding duplication, for the MSN group was 43.8%, including the MSN Hebrew and English sites and the Hotmail Hebrew and English sites.

The survey included a nationwide representatives sample of 1,000 Internet users aged 13 and up among the Jewish population in Israel.
