Berlusconi: I won't let EU impose sanctions on Israel

The Italian prime minister made the statement to a Knesset delegation at a meeting in Rome.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi declared last night that as long as he held office, he would not allow the European Union to impose economic sanctions on Israel. He made the statement to a Knesset delegation at a meeting in Rome. Berlusconi was responding to comments by Knesset speaker MK Avraham Burg (Labor), who said that any European pressure on Israel would only cause the Israeli government to toughen its position.
