Int'l regulators in Tel Aviv to focus on emerging markets

The IOSCO conference will feature SEC chairwoman Mary Schapiro and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) annual conference, which will be held this year in Tel Aviv from June 8-11, will focus on emerging markets and their part in a global economic recovery. It will address the relationships between developing and developed economies in the new global economic landscape and review recovery strategies.

The IOSCO is the leading international policy forum for securities regulators, and its member organizations regulate more than 95% of the world's securities markets

IOSCO Conference 2009 spokeswoman Yael Almog said, “It is crucial that we take advantage of this year’s IOSCO 2009 platform to introduce ideas that will allow emerging economies to revive their flagging markets. As the crisis continues to drag on, increasing numbers of economic experts view the revitalization of emerging markets as one of the keys on our road to economic recovery.”

Almog added that the conference will provide us the opportunity "to lay a foundation upon which we can begin to reshape global financial regulation.”

The conference will include world economic experts such as SEC chairwoman Mary Schapiro, Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, S&P president Deven Sharma and UK FSA chairman Lord Adair Turner.

Regulatory experts from the world’s largest markets, such as the US, UK, Canada, France, Australia, Germany and Italy will participate in the event, as well as leading regulators from emerging markets such as Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Israel, India, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Poland, and Turkey. The annual IOSCO conference promotes cooperation between securities regulators and integration between financial markets. This year’s conference will be hosted by the Israel Securities Authority and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE).
