Israel Aerospace Industries to fire 200

The layoffs are in the executive jet division and the conversion of passenger aircraft to cargo planes.

Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd., managed by Itzhak Nissan, intends firing 200 employees. Most of the workers being laid off are employed as part of IAI's collective agreement but have not gained enough seniority in order to receive tenure.

Half of the workers being fired are employed in IAI's executive jet division, while the remainder are employed in the Bedek division which converts passenger planes into cargo planes.

IAI's management decided on the measure following a drop in orders for executive jets.

IAI workers committee chairman MK Haim Katz downplayed the dismissals. He said, "200 out of 17,000 employees are not very many."
