Web security co Commtouch gets Netgear deal

Netgear will integrate Commtouch's technology in products aimed at the small to medium sized business market.

Web security firm Commtouch Software Ltd. (Nasdaq: CTCH) has signed an OEM deal with networking solution company Netgear (Nasdaq: NTGR) to integrate Commtouch technology into Netgear appliances.

Netgear will integrate Netanya-based Commtouch's email and web security filtering technologies into its ProSecure STM Series (STM150, STM300 and STM600) of web and email threat management appliances for small to medium-sized businesses. The STM series is aimed at networks with up to 600 concurrent users.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Netgear senior product line manager for SMB security Jason Leung said, "In order to truly protect SMB networks, security solutions need to be able to fully secure email and web communication. Email SPAM, malware embedded in email SPAM, and risky web surfing to unauthorized sites all contribute to raising a business's exposure to Internet-borne threats." Leung added, "Commtouch's RPD and GlobalView email and web filtering technology give our ProSecure STM Series the power to protect our SMB customers without adding undue management complexity."

Commtouch technology analyzes billions of Internet transactions in real-time to identify new email- and web-based threats as they are initiated. In January, the company reported that it signed 32 OEM deals in 2008, including 13 in the fourth quarter.

Netgear's Nasdaq market cap is $391 million.

Commtouch shares rose 2.8% on Nasdaq by mid-day, reaching $1.82. The firm's shares have traded in a range of $1.48 to $5.04 in the past 52 weeks.
