Peres, Chief Scientist want to expand int'l R&D funds

Staff will arrange meetings for Peres at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos.

President Shimon Peres and Chief Scientist Dr. Eli Opper have agreed to set up a joint team in order to expand binational R&D funds. Peres and Opper held a working meeting yesterday to implement the new economic agenda for Israel that Peres outlined at the "Globes" Israel Business Conference last week.

The plan includes eliminating income tax for ten years for five spearhead industries and to substantially expand current binational R&D foundations and establish new ones.

Peres and Opper agreed to set up a joint mechanism between the Office of the President and the Office of the Chief Scientist where Peres will use the full weight of his office to raise the issue with heads of government, ministers, and business and economic delegations from India, China, South Korea, and Japan.

Peres has instructed his staff to arrange meetings during his participation at the upcoming World Economic Forum meeting in Davos.
