Alvarion deploys Mobile WiMAX in Macedonia

Oppenheimer has upgraded the share to "Buy".

Telecommunications firm Neotel is deploying Alvarion Ltd.'s (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) Mobile WiMAX in Macedonia. Neotel is a local wireless internet service provider (WISP). The size of the deal was not disclosed. Its partner in the project is Neocom.

Neotel plans to offer the services this month, and expects to complete the launch nationwide by the end of 2009. The network will provide business and residential users with advanced broadband data and voice services.

In a separate development, Oppenheimer upgraded Alvarion to "Buy" from "Neutral". The share rose 4.7% in afternoon trading on Nasdaq today to $6.87, and rose 1.4% on the TASE.
