Wireless carriers to move to IP Ethernet

The changeover is part of a global upgrade to meet demand for data communications.

Israel's three large cellular operators - Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL), Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR), and Pelephone Communications Ltd. - will switch to IP Ethernet connectivity beginning next year, replacing their current E1-PRI transmission routers. The changeover is part of a global upgrade to meet demand for data communications and because IP Ethernet is more economical.

The changeover to IP Ethernet will enable the cellular operators to improve data traffic because the new networks enable faster and more flexible allocation to meet demand. The new cellular networks come with both E1 interfaces for telephony and Ethernet interfaces for data communications. E1 networks will eventually be eliminated and even voice communications will switch to VoIP Ethernet.
