Shekel-dollar rate heads lower

The shekel-dollar rate is down 1.3% and the shekel-euro rate is down 1%

The shekel is continuing to appreciate against leading currencies. The shekel-dollar exchange rate fell 1.3% to NIS 3.528/$ in inter-bank trading by early afternoon, and the shekel-euro exchange rate fell 1% to NIS 5.211/€.

On Wednesday, the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate was set at NIS 3.576/$, unchanged from the day before, and the shekel-euro representative exchange rate was set at NIS 5.263/€, up 0.21%.

In the local economic arena, Histadrut chairman Ofer Eini is threatening to call a labor dispute if the government approves the 2009 economic arrangements bill at Sunday's cabinet meeting. The government is continuing to discuss the 2009 state budget; Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said last night that he failed to reach an agreement with Labor Party chairman and Minister of Defense Ehud Barak to avoid a budget blowout.
