Electricity Authority mulls private power plant grid

The authority is expected to approve the setting up of a sub-committee to look at changes to regulation.

The Public Utilities Authority (Electricity) has made its first response to the criticism from the Ministry of National Infrastructures and some private electricity producers about tariffs for privately-produced electricity. Sources inform ''Globes'' that the authority will approve the setting up of a sub-committee to look at changes to regulation, and standards for private electricity producers, just one month after the tariff list was published.

The decision to set up the committee was taken with the consent of the Ministry of Finance, which supports moves to speed up the entry of private producers. Within one month, the committee will reportedly recommend changes to regulations and tariffs to make it easier for banks and institutions to finance the building of private power plants within one month. The changes will apparently be drawn up with the help of consultants from the private sector.
