Elbit Systems unit buys systems engineering co

Bar-Kal specializes in systems engineering of hyperspectral remote sensing technology.

Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) subsidiary Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Elop Ltd. (“Elop”) has bought Bar-Kal Systems Engineering Ltd.

Elop acquired all of the shares of Netanya-based Bar-Kal for an undisclosed purchase price, although Elbit said that the amount was not material to Elbit Systems.

Bar-Kal specializes in research, development and marketing of technologies related to systems engineering of hyperspectral remote sensing for defense and government-related customers in Israel and abroad.

Hyperspectral sensing processes many different images throughout the electromagnetic spectrum, and can be used to study the composition and mapping of minerals and natural resources.

Bar-Kal's previous owners are founders Ofer and Miki Braun, who established the company in 1995.

According to Elop general manager Haim Rousso, “The acquisition of Bar-Kal is an important enhancement of technological and system capabilities of Elbit Systems to provide the customers with integrated ISR solutions.”

Elbit Systems Ltd. is a defense-electronics company engaged in a wide range of defense-related programs throughout the world, including unmanned air vehicle (UAV) systems and military communications systems.
