Zim looks to be top ten shipping co

Executives want "to ensure we don't have to turn down cargo because of lack of space."

Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. president and CEO Doron Goder usually has little to say publicly, although in a recent letter to the shipping company's customers prior to the Passover holiday, he commented on the strategic program for Zim, as set out by its chairman Idan Ofer.

"Zim is set to take a leading position in the global shipping industry. As part of this goal, the company has purchased a substantial number of ships with the aim of becoming one of the top ten shipping companies worldwide by 2012," wrote Goder, and Zim A1 manager Shaul Ramon, who manages the EMEA region, in their letter to customers.

Zim, a subsidiary of Israel Corp. (TASE: ILCO), has stepped up its procurement of new carriers since it was privatized in 2004, as part of the company's strategic program to double its haulage capacity. "Our goal is to ensure we don't find ourselves faced with situations, as happens from time to time, where we have to turn down cargo due to lack of storage space on ships," said Goder and Ramon in their letter.
