Verint signs Rio De Janeiro security deal

The company is expanding the deployment of its Nextiva video surveillance and security system to the city's neighborhoods.

Comverse Technology (Pink Sheets: CMVT.PK) subsidiary Verint Systems (Pink Sheets: VRNT.PK) has signed a follow-on contract with the City of Rio De Janeiro to expand the deployment of its Nextiva video surveillance and security system to the city's neighborhoods, in light of its successful use in public spaces. The company said the success of the initial implementation, which contributed to the reduction of crime rates by over 50% in the high-traffic area of Copacabana Beach, prompted the city to expand the deployment city-wide.

The Nextiva system, will be used to transmit video data over multiple license-free wireless bands, making video readily available on the city’s IP network, enabling police and other security personnel to centrally monitor video from cameras in city centers, open spaces, and high traffic areas.

Edval de Oliveria Novaes, Under Secretary of Intelligence for the city of Rio de Janeiro said, "We are committed to providing a safe city atmosphere for the residents and visitors of Rio de Janeiro, and through our expanded deployment of Verint’s Nextiva solution, we will continue to decrease crime rates to allow our economy to thrive."
