"Naked DSL" decision due in March

With naked DSL, there will be no monthly line maintenance fee.

The Ministry of Communications is due to decide on "naked DSL" in early March. The decision is derived from the Gronau committee recommendations, but is not part of them.

Bezeq The Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) has already changed its mind on the issue, and the Ministry of Communications has apparently decided to launch "naked DSL" in Israel this year. The decision is very important for new communications providers that want to compete against Bezeq. For some of these providers, the decision to launch a "naked DSL" line will be decisive in deciding whether to compete in the inland telephony market.

"Naked DSL" service means that a customer can buy a designated line from Bezeq for Internet service without having to pay a monthly maintenance fee. In most countries, regulators permit the separate marketing of DSL lines from telephone lines, while taking into account the rate structure of the local telephony company.
