Xilinx names former Verisity exec as CEO

Moshe Gavrielov is only the third CEO in Xilinx's 24-year history.

US semiconductor company Xilinx Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) has appointed former Verisity CEO Moshe Gavrielov as its new president and CEO. The company said Gavrielov will replace Willem P. Roelandts, 63, who remains chairman of the board. Gavrielov is only the third Xilinx CEO in its 24-year history. He was CEO of automated software verification solutions provider Verisity for seven years until its sale in 2005 to Cadence Design Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CDNS) for $315 million in cash.

Willem Roelandts said, "Moshe has an excellent track record in building semiconductor and software businesses, applying an outstanding blend of strategic, analytic, business and leadership skills."

Gavrielov added, "I'm honored and excited to assume responsibility from Wim for leading one of the most highly-respected semiconductor companies in the world. We have a great opportunity to bring the benefits of Xilinx technology to a broader range of industries and applications in the coming years."
