Shekel depreciating against dollar, euro in options trading

The shekel-dollar rate is up 0.13%; the shekel-euro rate is up 0.66%.

The shekel-dollar exchange rate rose 0.13% to NIS 3.862/$ in options trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) this morning. The representative exchange rate was set at NIS 3.857/$ on Friday, after falling 0.36%.

The shekel-euro exchange rate rose 0.66% to NIS 5.6872/€ in options trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) this morning. The representative exchange rate was set at NIS 5.65/€ on Friday, after rising 0.65%.

The shekel appreciated 1.5% against the dollar last week and appreciated 0.5% against the euro.

Union Bank says that 2008 will be a challenging and volatile year under the influence of the US housing crisis and credit crunch. In its weekly survey, the bank says, "No end to the crisis is seen on the horizon, despite efforts by the world's central banks to increase market liquidity."
