Israel invited to China's Expo 2010

Israel has not yet approved its participation, even though it has been allocated 10,000 square meters of exhibition space.

China has invited Israel to participate in the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The invitation was made to members of the Israel-China Parliamentary Friendship Society during a visit to China last week. Israel is considering its response.

MK Danny Yatom (Labor) headed the delegation. Other members were MK Orit Noked (Labor), MK Lia Shemtov (Yisrael Beiteinu), and MK Elhanan Glazer (Gil Pensioners Party). The MKs promised to promote Israel’s participation in the Expo.

Yatom said, “This Expo will unquestionably give the world an economic heritage and boost industrial development. The delegation members will therefore work for Israel’s participation.”

Israel’s commercial attache in Shanghai Uri Guttman told the Chinese that Israel would discuss a budget for the event in the hope that it could approve participation. However, Israel has not yet approved its participation, even though 10,000 square meters of exhibition space has been allocated to it. The minimum participation fee is $8 million per country.

The theme of the World Expo 2010 is “Better City - Better Life”. It is considered the third most important international commercial and social event.
