Wireless and wireline broadband communications provider Metalink Ltd. (Nasdaq: MTLK;TASE: MTLK) reported that its WLANPlus 802.11n chipset was selected by Pirelli Broadband Solutions for Pirelli's line of wireless video extenders.
Pirelli's Discus video extenders enable service providers to offer consumers a solution for the wireless delivery of high-definition video without the need for any wiring. Metalink's WLANPlus enables multi-room networking of multiple high-definition video streams.
"Major European service providers consider the installation of additional wires in their customers' homes as a major obstacle to deployment of IPTV and video services in general," said Corrado Rocca, senior vice president, Product Management and Development - Access Products for Pirelli Broadband Solutions.
Pirelli Broadband Solutions, part of the Pirelli Group, specializes in broadband access technology and photonics, and provides access gateways, set-top boxes, multiple handsets, and other broadband products.
Metalink is headquartered in Yakum. The company has design centers in Atlanta, GA, and in Taiwan. The firm trades on Nasdaq with a market capitalization of around $131 million.
