Consumer Confidence Index raises demand growth doubts

The positive trend in the first half of the year has essentially ended.

The improvement in the index in the “Globes” Consumer Confidence Index in the first half of the year has come to a halt. The index rose by a negligible 0.1 points in August 2007 to 86.1 points. The index fell by 4 points in July and was unchanged in June.

A breakdown of the index’s components shows cautious optimism about the current economic situation, but pessimism about the situation in six months both for the economy in general and respondents’ personal situation.

As such, analysis of the Consumer Confidence Index by Globes Research and Kesselman and Kesselman - PricewaterhouseCooper Israel raises doubts about further expansion of private consumption for the rest of the year.
