Employees: Castro is a dictatorship

Employees say that management refuses to recognize their right to organize.

Employees at textiles and clothing retail chain Castro Model Ltd. (TASE: CAST) are fighting for the right to unionize. Employees at the company’s logistics center at Zerifin will hold demonstrations outside the company stores in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa tomorrow afternoon to protest what they are calling management’s refusal to recognize their right to organize.

A month ago, Castro employees at the logistics center decided that they wanted to discuss their salary and work conditions, but management has refused to meet with them. They employees therefore decided to exercise their legal right to unionize.

One employee, Diego, an immigrant from Argentina and father of four said, “The situation has become a dictatorship. There’s no democracy. Our motivation is zero. I though we came to a democratic country, not a banana republic.” He added, “We don’t want to harm the company economically; we’re a part of it.”

Castro chairman Gabi Roter said, “Belying media reports, Castro supports employees’ right to unionize as a fundamental right.”
