Dr. Yossi Vardi and others will be awarded the prize from the Manufacturers Association.

The Manufacturers Association of Israel will award its 2007 Industry Prize to Dr. Yossi Vardi, one of Israel’s high-tech pioneers and Internet gurus. This year’s other winners are Strauss Group president and CEO Erez Vigodman, Readymix Industries chairman Amnon Dotan, and Mul-T-LockCEO Shimon Shekel.

The award ceremony will be held next Wednesday at the David Intercontinental Hotel in the presence of Speaker of the Knesset Dalia Itzik, Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor Eli Yishai, Manufacturers Association president Shraga Brosh, and business leaders.

Vardi earned his D.Sc. in Operation Research from Technion Israel Institute of Technology. He is being honored for his great contribution to Israeli high-tech, encouraging foreign investment, promotion of R&D, and as a “first-rate visionary, Zionist, with a developed social awareness,” as the award notice put it. He is known as Israel’s “Internet guru”, especially for his founding of Mirabilis, which developed ICQ and which was sold to AOL.

Vigodman is being honored for “presenting an exemplary example of industrial leadership and management at the highest level.”

Shekel is being honored for his 40 years of service in Israeli industry, 30 of which have been spent at Mul-T-Lock.
