Chromagen wins Chile electricity deal

The company will install 10,000 of its thermo-solar systems across Chile over three years.

Israeli solar systems manufacturer Chromagen Ltd. has won a NIS 16 million project from Chile's leading electricity company, Chilectra SA, to install 10,000 of its thermo-solar systems. The project will focus first on the Chilean capital of Santiago, which has a population of eight million, and it will later be extended to other cities across the country over a period of three years. Chromagen will execute the project together with its local distributor Isener SA.

Chilectra's decision to install thermo-solar systems stems from the acute shortage of gas and is designed to save electricity.

Chromagen general manager Hagai Shefer said that the company has installed Chile's largest industrial solar system, providing 30,000 liters of hot water a day at a food processing plant. In all, Chromagen's exports to countries in Latin and South America over the last three years have reached an estimated NIS 27 million.

Chromagen said that it is active in 35 countries worldwide. It increased its global activity in 2006 by 30% with sales this year expected to reach NIS 200 million, 17% higher than in last year, and global activity accounting for 55% of turnover. The company added that rising energy and fuel prices in Israel and other countries had boosted demand for its products.
