Israeli stranded for 22 hours in Iranian Airport

A flight from Istanbul to Mumbai was forced to land in Teheran because of an electrical fault.

“IDF Radio” (Galei Zahal) reports that an Israeli was among the 125 passengers and crew of a Turkish Airlines plane that was forced to make an emergency landing in Teheran on Friday. Indian media said that an electrical fault forced the plane flying from Istanbul to Mumbai to land.

Foreign media report that when the plane attempted to take off Saturday morning, it was forced to return to Teheran because the electrical fault resurfaced. “Turkish Airlines” said that a relief plane arrived in Teheran last night, and took the passengers, including a very nervous Israeli, to their destination.

The passengers spent 22 hours in the Teheran airport terminal, until they were able to continue their flight. Although most of the passengers were Indian nationals, they were not permitted to leave the terminal, because they lacked visas to enter Iran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was very tense during the incident, even though the Iranian officials were unaware that there was an Israeli citizen on board. The Israeli had notified the crew of his citizenship.
