Hotel proceeds up 7% in 2006

Tourist proceeds fell 19% in the second half of the year to NIS 1 billion.

Hotel proceeds rose 7% in 2006, compared with 2005, to NIS 6.5 billion, the Central Bureau of Statistics reports. Proceeds from foreign tourists rose 7% to NIS 2.4 billion, and proceeds from Israelis rose 8% to NIS 4.1 billion.

However, because of the second Lebanon war last summer, tourist proceeds, entries and overnights fell 19% in the second half of the year, after rising 35% in the first half of the year. Tourist proceeds totaled NIS 1 billion during the second half of the year, the lowest six-month amount in many years, compared with NIS 1.4 billion in the first half.

Hotel revenue from Israelis rose 6.4% in the second half, offsetting the drop in revenue from tourists.

Average weekly employment at hotels was 25,000 persons, and the average gross salary was NIS 5,600 a month.
