Unemployment fell 4.2% in 2006

The number of persons out of work for more than a year rose to 57.5% from 56.7% in 2005.

The number of unemployed persons fell by 4.2% to 236,100 in 2006 on a weekly average from 246,400 on a weekly average in 2005, although the situation of those who remained unemployed worsened, according to an analysis of Central Bureau of Statistics figures by economic ministries in Jerusalem.

The proportion of persons out of work for more than a year rose to 57.5% from 56.7% in 2005. Likewise, the proportion of persons seeking work for more than 27 consecutive weeks rose to 40% in 2006, from 39.4% in 2005.

The proportion of job seekers seeking through The Israel National Employment Service fell to 50.1% in 2006 from 53.8% in 2005.
