Israel Railways to strike Friday

Egged will run extra buses along the train routes to meet demand.

Israel Railways will go on strike throughout the country tomorrow, after negotiations between management and the workers committee collapsed last night.

Minister of Transport Shaul Mofaz is calling on the railway workers not to go strike. “Every issue in dispute can be solved by talking,” he said.

Israel Railways management and the workers committee have been trying to solve the dispute for several days to no avail. The workers are striking to protest management’s plan for lay-offs and what they claim is the non-honoring of the labor contract.

Tomorrow’s strike will make it difficult for many soldiers to go home for weekend leave. Egged will run extra buses along the train routes to meet demand.
