Cable & Wireless Int'l to deploy Alvarion WiMAX system

The first deployment has already taken place, in Antigua.

Wireless broadband technology company Alvarion (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) announced today that Cable & Wireless International (CWI) had selected its BreezeMAX system for fixed and mobile (802.16e) deployments.

CWI has already deployed the first network in Antigua offering service beginning in December 2006. The WiMAX network deployment provides broadband to business and residence customers, using the BreezeMAX Pro and BreezeMAX Si customer premises equipment.

"Alvarion's WiMAX strategy enables us to optimize all aspects of our WiMAX network deployments using the best systems from multiple companies. This further enhances the WiMAX ecosystem while deepening the business partnership between our companies," said Frank Mount, CWI Chief Technology Officer

"Globes" reported today that Efrat Makov, who was CFO of Aladdin Knowledge Systems (Nasdaq: ALDN; TASE: ALDN), leads a field of three candidates to replace Dafna Gruber as CFO of Aladdin. Gruber was named new CFO of NICE Systems (Nasdaq: NICE; TASE: NICE) six weeks ago.

Alvarion released fourth quarter 2006 financials last week showing a net profit of $4.5 million on $50.3 million revenue.

The company's share rose sharply on the Tel Aviv Stock market today.
