January vehicle deliveries up 25% over last year

January car sales rose 15.4% to 12,661.

16,378 vehicles were delivered in January 2007, 25% more than in January 2005, says the Israel Motor Vehicles Importers Association on the basis of importers’ reports. The Association attributes the jump in deliveries to purchases deferred from November and December as buyers waited for prices to fall because of the cut in the purchase tax and the update in the value use of company cars. The price of some cars fell by tens of thousands of shekels.

12,661 cars were sold in January, 15.4% more than in January 2005, while deliveries of commercial vehicles soared by 114% and deliveries of off-road vehicles rose by 53%.

Mazda and Ford importer Delek Motors Ltd. delivered the most vehicles in January - 4,570, up 28% on the corresponding month. Mazda was the top-selling brand, with 2,587 delivers, while third-ranked Ford had 1,983 deliveries. Toyota was in second place, with 2,545 deliveries; Hyundai was fourth, with 1,748 deliveries; and Volkswagen was fifth, with 790 deliveries. Industry sources believe that most sales were to individuals.
