OpTier integrates system in Sun Microsystems' Solaris 10

OpTier VP Motti Tal: Collaboration between the two companies will generate large revenue for us this year.

Enterprise transaction workload management technology company OpTier has signed an important strategic agreement with Sun Microsystems. The company announced today that its CoreFirst product now offers full support for Sun's Solaris 10 operating system.

OpTier and Sun have entered into a joint development marketing agreement, under which the two companies will collaborate to allow customers transaction workload management capabilities with Solaris 10 OS advanced virtualization, resource management and diagnostics capabilities.

OpTier was founded in 2002 by Israel Mazin, who founded Memco, and sold it to CA for $550 million in 1999. OpTier's technology enables enterprises to obtain detailed, real-time information on transactions in information systems, to investigate problems that impair the enterprises level of service, and to prioritize users and transactions in accordance with the enterprise's business priorities.

"The relationship with Sun began with work with customers of both companies," OpTier Executive VP Marketing and Business Development Motti Tal relates. "We understood that with the new generation of the Solaris 10 operating system there was great potential if we were to adapt our system to it. This is a long term project. We are already installing the combined system at customers, and this agreement provides the formal framework."

According to Tal, collaboration between the two companies will generate large revenue for OpTier already this year. OpTier is estimated to have had sales of some $20 million in 2006.

OpTier is considered one of Israel's most successful start-up companies. It completed a $7 million fund raising round in March last year from the Pitango, Lightspeed, and Carmel funds. The company employs about 75 people. It has a research center in Ramat Gan, and marketing and sales activity overseas.
