Ilex Medical Ltd. (TASE:ILX) today announced that it has obtained an exclusive franchise to market its Chiron Corporation’s blood test products in Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. The company already has marketing franchises for Chiron products in South Africa, Turkey, and Russia.
For the first time, Chiron will participate in financing the cost of developing Ilex’s marketing network in the new franchise countries. Ilex says blood donations in Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria total 1.5-2 million a year. Each Chiron blood test kit will cost €12-25, giving a maximum market potential of €50 million.
Ilex says it will begin marketing in Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria on January 1, 2007, but added that no substantial sales are expected in the first year, nor can it estimate its future share of the markets in these countries.
