Casinos Austria to operate casino ship in Eilat Bay

The project, based on an agreement between Casinos Austria and the Eilat municipality, will cost $8-10 million.

Casinos Austria, one of the world’s biggest casino companies, will start operating in Eilat Bay in early April, Casinos Austria operations manager Brett Anderson told Eilat Mayor Gabi Kadosh. Casinos Austria, which operated the Jericho Casino until the outbreak of the intifada, operates many casinos in Europe.

Casinos Austria will operate a luxurious casino ship, which is in the final stages of construction. 450 workers, of whom 350 will be Eilat residents, will be employed on the ship. The ship will anchor outside Israel’s territorial waters. Casinos Austria is setting up a special, frequent transport service from the hotels and northern beach area to the ship.

The project, based on an agreement between Casinos Austria and the Eilat municipality, costs $8-10 million. Kadosh says that the casino will enhance visitors’ use of various facilities in Eilat, and will totally change the city’s commercial scene.

Kadosh added that, in order to prevent competition with Eilat traders, the ship will not have duty-free services or stores, apart from food stores. All the food sold on the ship will be bought in Eilat, as will maintenance services for the ship.

Anderson said that special care would be taken to provide security for the ship, in coordination with Israel Police and the Navy. Israeli and European security companies will guard the ship, its surroundings, and the ferries from the beach. Anderson added that the company would soon start recruiting workers in Eilat, and would later train them. Some 100 workers will be brought to Eilat from abroad, and will serve mainly as dealers and casino managers.
