Oracle invests in Israeli communications services start-up

The investment in ComAbility was part of Oracle's collaboration with the Chief Scientist.

Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) has made another investment in an Israeli start-up under the auspices of its collaboration with the Chief Scientist at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor. The company has invested in ComAbility Ltd., which develops subscriber and services management and operations systems for communications companies and Internet service providers.

Oracle made the investment through its venture capital and independent software vendor division.

ComAbility will collaborate with Oracle on the building of a diversified data session repository, based on an Oracle database, which will function as a control center for the storage of user ID data on service provider networks, and expand network-based user ID management models. ComAbility is in the process of patenting the product.

Oracle Excellence Center for Startups, ISVs & OEMs manager Omer Ziv said, "We identified the potential in the development of a session repository based on the Oracle database, which can serve as a central knowledge base in data network environments, and is designed for DRP, HA, connectivity, operations and troubleshooting. We chose ComAbility's product because of its ability to strengthen subscriber management on service provider networks, making it more efficient, reliable, flexible to frequent change, and able to support a wide range of services as required from advance service providers."

ComAbility provides subscriber and service operations systems. In November it raised $6 million from Vertex Venture Capital and Stata Ventures. The company's flagship product is neXus, a unified subscriber and services operation system that can view, control, monitor, and troubleshoot subscribers and services.
